Mrs. Switzer's First Grade

Dear Parents,                                                                                     

     My name is Mrs. Switzer.  I will be your child's teacher this year.  I am a graduate of Wilkes University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.  

     This is my fourth year teaching first grade, but I have taught sixth grade for the last sixteen years.  Teaching first grade is the most rewarding grade to teach.

     If you need to speak to me about a problem or concern, please call the school at 655-2146.   I will return your call as soon as possible.

Schedule of Related Arts

Homework Schedule

Monday thru Friday - LANGUAGE ARTS - Practice orally any words on cut and paste papers and vocabulary flash cards sent home for every story each week.  Vocabulary tests given at the end of each story.  Theme Vocabulary tests after each theme ends.  Skills Tests are given on Day #5 of each story.  Theme tests are given after a theme has been completed.

Tuesday and Thursday - MATH - Practice papers will be sent home marked  H.W.  in the corner.  Return the next day.

General Information

Your child should have a  "Take Home" folder to carry his or her daily work home.  Daily work should be reviewed if any mistakes were made.  The folder should be emptied and returned the following day.  Backpacks are allowed.

Breakfast is $.75 and is served at 8:20AM.  Reduced is $.30.  If your child is not eating breakfast and is not a bus student, he or she should not report to school before 8:20AM.  There is no supervision for students before 8:20AM.

Lunch is $1.50 or your child may carry his or her own lunch.  Reduced lunch is $.40  You can purchase milk at $.50.

If there is a change of plans as to how your child will be picked up, I must have a note.

Bus students will exit at dismissal from the left side of the building. Walkers will be dismissed from the front door of the school.  If you are picking up your child, please wait near this spot.  

We order from Scholastic Book Club.  Every month an order will be sent home.  Your child is under no obligation to order any books.  If you would like to write a check, please make it to the book company.

When your child is absent, I will make every attempt to get your son's or daughter's homework to him or her via the person listed on the homework buddy form you filled out at the beginning of the year.

An excuse for the absence is expected to be brought to school at the time of his or her return.
