SOCIAL STUDIES NEWS

We will be studying the first Americans as they crossed the land bridge and spread out across two continents. We will also see how they developed a variety of cultures, with some groups of people (the Mayas, Aztecs, and Incas) building advanced civilizations based on farming.

In Unit 2 we will be study the Spanish exploration of the Americas, and the colonization of North and South America.  We will sail with Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, Balboa, and Magellan.

By the 1500's the Spanish realized that they were at the edge of a new continent.  To them it was a "new world." We will study how they came to not only explore, but settle in this "new world."

Do you know?

Homework / Test Policy

Homework is usually assigned daily, and is critical to your child's academic development.  Homework assignments are listed on the blackboard, and your child should know his/her assignments before they leave school each day.  A daily planner has been provided to each child so students can record their daily assignments.

All tests are announced at least 3 to 4 days in advance.  There may be unannounced quizzes given in any subject to check the child's progress and understanding of the material that has been covered.  Most tests are sent home for review, and all test scores below the numerical grade of 80 must be signed  and returned.
