SOCIAL STUDIES NEWS
We will be studying the first Americans as they crossed the land bridge and spread out across two continents. We will also see how they developed a variety of cultures, with some groups of people (the Mayas, Aztecs, and Incas) building advanced civilizations based on farming. In Unit 2 we will be study the Spanish exploration of the Americas, and the colonization of North and South America. We will sail with Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, Balboa, and Magellan. By the 1500's the Spanish realized that they were at the edge of a new continent. To them it was a "new world." We will study how they came to not only explore, but settle in this "new world." Do you know? * Who was America named after? See if you can find out
