Conferences - 2/10/16
- Superintendent, Janet Serino
announces that there will be NO
school for students on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.
This will be reserved for parent conferences and report
card distribution. Teachers
will be available throughout the day from 12:00 (noon) to 7:00
P.M., with the exception of the dinner break between 4:30 P.M. and
5:00 P.M. NO
prior appointment is necessary on this day.
- The above schedule for parent
conferences and report card distribution is for ALL schools (JFK, 10th Street, Montgomery Avenue,
SJD, and Secondary Center) in the Wyoming Area School District.
- All parents are encouraged to
meet and conference with their child’s teacher (s) on this day.
- If you have any questions or need
any special arrangements, please do NOT hesitate to contact the school.

Closed for President's Day
- On Monday, February 15th,
2016 all schools in the Wyoming Area School District will be
closed in observance of President’s Day.
- Notice of Public Hearing
Board of Education and Administration would like to thank all
who attended and spoke at the public hearing regarding the
possible closure of Sarah J. Dymond Elementary. The
district elementary principal's, Mr. Jon Pollard and Mr. Joe
Long provided detailed information through a Power Point
presentation compiled from the KCBA
Study (2015) along with current and
projected enrollment figures, operational cost comparisons,
repairs/upgrades, transportation costs, etc. They also
presented the concept of Centers vs Neighborhood (current) based

- The district solicitor, Jarrett Ferrentino, was
moderator for the public hearing and concluded with a 90-day
period in which the board would have to make their
decision. Should anyone wish to ask questions or make
comments in regards to the possible closure of SJD, please email

- For those parents of elementary students who would like to
better help their children in math, The Essential Parents' Guide
to Primary Maths in available for borrowing, one per elementary
building. According to the author, it is most designed for
students in the upper primary grade levels (3rd, 4th, and 5th)
and has been suggested to our district by the publisher of Math
In Focus, Marshall Cavendish, as a good companion to the Math In
Focus Series. Please call your child's school if you are
interested in borrowing the available copy. The ISBN

- Wyoming Area School District has been notified by
US News and World Report magazine that Wyoming Area has received
a Silver Medal for academic achievement.
- Over 21,000 schools
were evaluated across the nation. The top 500 schools in the nation receive Gold
Medal status; 501-1790, Silver Medal; and 2500, a Bronze Medal.

Wyoming Area School
District is located in northeastern Pennsylvania, midway between
Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, along the Susquehanna River.
The District is composed
of six municipalities; West Pittston, Exeter, Wyoming, West Wyoming,
Harding, and Falls, covering approximately 26 square miles.
elementary schools house students from grades K-6 and range in size from
215 to 460 students. They are: Tenth Street, JFK, Montgomery Avenue, and
Sarah J. Dymond.
The Secondary Center is
located in Exeter, currently houses 1193 students from grades 7-12. The
total District enrollment is 2533.
The District has soccer,
baseball, and field hockey facilities, tennis courts, and a lighted
synthetic track, that is open to the public until 10 p.m., located at
the football stadium in West Pittston.
The District is 15 minutes
away from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, Minor League
Baseball, Hockey, and Arena venues, as well as, ski slopes, concert
facilities, and plenty of shopping malls.

- REVISED FORMS
- Any requests needed to be
approved on the agenda by the School Board, which includes use of
building facilities, conferences, fundraisers, must be received by
Denise Holmes, Board Secretary, five days prior to the work
session. The work session is
held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
- No requests will be
taken after that date or after the work session.
Any information received after the work session will go on
the next month’s agenda. Also,
all forms must be filled out and submitted with your requests (use
of facilities form, routing sheet, event order).
