Course Description

The English series is called, English to Use. This series integrates Spelling, Grammar, Writing, Reading, and Listening Skills. A special emphasis will be placed on the 5 writing process to prepare the students for the PSSA test in seventh grade.

Course Objectives

• The students will master capitalization and punctuation basic skills in sentences.

• The students will become proficient in subject/verb agreement.

• The students will be able to define and recognize the eight parts of speech in sentences.

• The students will be introduced to the writing process.

• The students will be assessed on their writing by way of the Wyoming Area rubric.

• The students will continue practicing various reading strategies for better decoding and comprehension.

• The students will be able to describe the setting, characters, plot, and main idea of a story.

• The students will be able to respond to oral, visual, written and electronic texts, and compare their responses to those of their peers.

• The students will be able to apply meaning while reading.
